A Seasonal Assistance andCheer Grant from the Polk County Community Foundation generously provided funds for refreshments, gifts for the children, supplies for the Christmas craft, and a BiLo grocery gift card for the family of each child served by BBBS in both the community and school programs. A grant from the Arthur M. and Frances H. Wilhelm Fund at the Polk County Community Foundation provided additional funds for the holiday activities.
The Polk County Community Foundation awards these seasonal grants to local nonprofit organizations to help support individuals and families who may need assistance during the holiday season, improving the quality of life for recipients in our community. Big Brothers Big Sisters is fortunate to share these special funds, allowing the Littles to enjoy a cheerful celebration and families to have extra food while students are home during the holidays.
Big Brothers Big Sisters has served this community for 11 years, bringing volunteers and youth together to benefit children facing adversity. Mentors help Littles make better choices, and help them envision and reach their potential. For children to grow and develop into responsible adults who will participate in our future in a positive manner, they need to be guided and encouraged.
Remember that we can all work together to make a difference. An attitude of “everyone does better when everyone does better” can propel us into action to lift others along life’s path.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters organization’s success can be attributed to the commitment of the many volunteers who serve as mentors and council members, to area citizens who provide financial contributions, and to the Polk County Community Foundation for their generous support.
