Polk County Public Library recently was awarded two grants for free community events from the Polk County Community Foundation. These grants will finance the library’s Afternoon Adventures and Shakespeare Community Read programs.
Afternoon Adventures is a program for elementary school-aged children. This event takes place on Mondays at 4 p.m. at the main library in Columbus and on first and third Tuesdays at 4 p.m. at the Saluda Community Library. Activities include board games, movie matinees, hikes, crafts, and cooking classes. Refreshments are served at every event as well. Check out http://polklibrary.org/kids/ for a complete schedule.
Polk County Public Library has partnered with other libraries in the area for the 2014 Shakespeare Regional Read program, in honor of the writer’s 450th birthday this year. There will be several events happening in March and April involving various aspects of the arts, especially music. The library will also be giving away 500 copies of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” to community residents. Many of the event dates are still to be determined, so keep an eye out for future announcements.
