After two quarters of a great women’s high basketball rivalry at PCHS Friday night, Dec. 6, Polk County’s women’s team held a 23-21 lead over Landrum, and it looked like anyone’s game.

From there, the Wolverines poured in 37 more points before the Cardinals could find the net again. Polk defeated the visitors 75-28.

The Cardinals will be gunning for payback when the teams meet at Landrum this evening, Tuesday, Dec. 10.

Polk coach Craig Culbreth said his players “got a little tired” halfway through the game, but during intermission, he said they “talked about working together as a team,” and “in the second half (they) started putting everything together.”

Leading the way for Polk were Sarah Phipps (21 points, 13 rebounds) and Haley Kropp (19 points, 10 steals). The Wolverines’ ferocious defense shut down the Cardinals’ in the last 16 minutes.

After the third quarter, in which Polk blanked Landrum, the hosts led, 53-21, on their way to posting their third win against just one loss. Last Wednesday, Polk topped Chase, 71-28.

Landrum fell to 1-1, after beginning the season with a win over Woodruff.
