A silent auction and “Victory Dinner” will culminate activities at the seventh annual Bob Silvia Memorial Golf Tournament on Oct.3.

The Mediation Center-sponsored tournament will take place at Connestee Falls Golf Club in Brevard, and an Outback Steakhouse dinner will follow at 5:30 p.m. at nearby Atagahi Park.

Tournament registration includes dinner. Non-golfers are welcome to participate in the awards dinner, silent auction and program for a small fee. The top three teams will be awarded rounds of golf at prestigious local courses.

The silent auction offers more than 30 items donated by local businesses including tickets to the Biltmore Estate, a diamond necklace from Love’s Jewelry, and dinner gift certificates to a variety of local restaurants.

The Mediation Center serves residents of Henderson, Buncombe, Polk and Transylvania counties. Tournament proceeds will benefit Youth Programs in those counties — including classes in problem solving, communication and conflict resolution skills.

The tournament was created by the family and friends of Bob Silvia. Now deceased, Silvia was once a troubled teenager. He later was hired by a storekeeper who inspired him to change his behavior and redirect his life. From that point forward, Silvia became known for supporting young people through difficult and challenging circumstances.
