The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship will have their last service until the fall at the Tryon Youth Center on Rt. 176N on Sunday, June 9 at 10:30 a.m. The speaker will be Reverend Jean Rowe who will speak on the topic “Annual Flower Communion: A Network of Mutuality.”

In this traditional Unitarian service celebrating the depth of connections and the unity of spirit, each one brings a flower or flowering branch to combine in a large bouquet.  As attendees leave, each takes a different flower, in the spirit of mutuality.

Martin Luther King, Jr. said:   “In a real sense all life is interrelated.  We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny.”  Of course, not all people believe that is true. The rugged individualists.  The me-firsters.  Those who want responsibility only for their own families and nobody else.

There is a battle for the soul of society going on.   Those who believe in the interdependence of all life on the planet and those who only care about me and mine.  As for us, we will celebrate the network of mutuality.

This is Rev. Rowe’s last service as Consulting Minister so this will also be a farewell gathering.

Following the service there will be an annual meeting, election of officers for the coming year, and a potluck lunch. Bring a salad or desert as well as a place setting. The main dish and drinks will be provided.
