Youth tennis clinics May 23

Children, ages 12 to 17 who are interested in playing tennis or learning to play tennis are invited to an informational meeting this Thursday evening, May 23 at 6 p.m. at Polk County High School.

The Thermal Belt Community Tennis Association (CTA), Henderson County CTA and the Western NC USTA League coordinators have organized four free clinics to be offered this summer with teaching instructors from the USTA and community tennis associations.

These one-hour clinics will be held on Tuesday evenings at Polk County Middle School beginning June 11.  The clinics are introductory in nature and provide students a chance to meet new friends and practice partners, get exercise and learn a sport they can enjoy the rest of their life.

Instructors for the clinics include Lane Evans, a P-1 professional with the United States Professional Tennis Association, and Jim Greene, the teaching professional at Red Fox Country Club.

There will also be rally days held at Harmon Field tennis courts on July 16 and July 23, with volunteers coordinating round robin doubles play for junior players.

Organizers also hope the effort will help to grow the varsity tennis team at Polk County High School.
