Skyuka Fine Art is proud to offer a chance to win a charcoal portrait by Richard Christian Nelson. Those interested are welcome to call, stop by the gallery, or email to purchase a chance at winning your very own charcoal portrait by this internationally recognized and award-winning portrait artist.

Nelson hails from Detroit, MI where he attended and eventually taught at what is now known as The College for Creative Studies. It was at CCS where he developed his love of painting, drawing, figurative art and art history.

“I work towards ‘painterly realism;’ good drawing and composition, rendered with strong natural color, in such a way that you can still sense or ‘feel’ the paint. The effect of this process is that the subject begins to artfully reveal itself to me and hopefully, the viewer.” Most recently, Nelson has been awarded fifth place in the “Portrait Society of America’s 2013 International Competition” with his portrait of “Luke at 15”. Thousands of entries from around the world were narrowed down to 20, and then 10 finalists for this prestigious competition. Nelson has also recently won first place in the “Member’s Only Competition-Commissioned Portraits”, a “Certificate of Excellence”, and an “Honorary Mention” from the Portrait Society of America; where he has also served on their faculty.
