Saluda painter Verne Dawson’s work will tour the world this month and next.
Dawson’s oil paintings will be on display at the London art gallery Victoria Miro through April 20. He will also be showing a suite of painting at the Museo de Bellas Artes in Mexico City (the Metropolitan Museum of Mexico) and a small show in Venice, Italy at the Il Capricorno Gallery.
Dawson shared with the Bulletin a link from www.phaidon.com, which talks about his upcoming show in London and describes his work as, “almost science fiction-like.”
The article discussing Dawson also describes his London show entitled, “Apalachicola to Zirconia,” as being “inspired by the 16th-century Spanish conquistador Hernando de Soto’s fatal expedition into the American Southeast in search of the fabled fountain of youth.”
This is Dawson’s third show with the Victoria Miro.
Born in 1955, Verne Dawson divides his time between New York and North Carolina. In recent years he has been the subject of monographic shows at Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin, Le Consortium, Dijon, Camden Arts Centre, London and Kunsthalle, Zurich.
