Sunny View Elementary School recently held its first “Book Day” of the school year. Patterned after the previous RIF (Reading is Fundamental) program, the event provided free books for every student. Nancy’s Books, a new fund at the Polk County Community Foundation, was recently formed with a large donation from an anonymous donor, and ensures the continuation of the program in perpetuity, even though federal funding has ended.

Mrs. Nancy understands the value of books in the home and is delighted that the students at Sunny View School will have the opportunity to receive three high-quality reading books each year to build their personal book collections.

There’s something special about a brand-new book. First graders Daylon Bradley, Dakota Searcy, Evie Hill and Travis Green choose the perfect book for them. Volunteers Bailey and Elizabeth Nager had prepared them for the choice by reading and showing the great books to pick.

Two local community organizations, Pavillon International and Lebanon United Methodist Women, also made generous donations to the cause.
