New playground built at Polk Central Elementary School

On Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 29-30, parents and other volunteers came together to install new playground equipment at Polk Central Elementary School. The playground is suitable for kindergarten through second-grade students, who had not had age-appropriate playground equipment previously. The project was completed using money collected from school fundraisers for three years and grants from the Tryon Kiwanis Club and the Unrestricted Fund at the Polk County Community Foundation. Parents and school officials helped plan the playground.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on Sunday, Oct. 28 from 3-5 p.m. to celebrate the new playground. Called a “block party” for the whole community, it will include free food, entertainment and inflatables for the children. Everyone is welcome.
