An open house tour in downtown Tryon featuring properties that are available for rent or sale will be held today, Thursday, Sept. 27, from 4-7 p.m.
Ten properties will be on the self-guided tour (see box on page 6), including spaces on North and South Trade Street, Pacolet Street and Ola Mae Way (off of N. Trade opposite Stott’s Ford). The participating spaces will feature a big blue star on the window front, and volunteers will be identified by a blue star as well. Volunteers will be available in the downtown area to answer questions, hand out information, give directions, etc.
The open house tour is part of an ongoing effort to stimulate economic growth in downtown Tryon. After a couple of businesses moved out of the downtown area recently, Tryon business and property owners, town officials, the Tryon Downtown Development Association and area residents held a brainstorming session on July 9 that was attended by approximately 200 people.
The purpose of the session was to come up with ideas for addressing the number of vacant storefronts on Trade, Pacolet and Depot streets. The idea for the open house tour came out of that brainstorming session. Volunteers stepped up to organize the event and contacted property owners about participating.
