Congratulations to a very special person, Bennett Hinsdale, who celebrated his 103rd  birthday on April 2, 2012. Bennett

is a lifelong resident of Green Creek, and at the age of 100, he mowed his own grass, and got his daily exercise by walking about three miles a day.
This remarkable man is the oldest graduate of Green Creek High School, and has attended most of our annual Green Creek School Reunions. In 2009, when he was 100 years old, Bennett brought his framed diploma to the reunion and shared memories of his school days at Green Creek High School during the 1920s. When we began to sing the alma mater, Bennett walked to the piano and joined the group of local musicians leading the singing. His beautiful voice amazed us as he sang patriotic and gospel songs from memory.
Bennett has been an inspiration to many of us and, at 103, is still a blessing to all who know him, especially his caregivers at Rosecrest nursing center.
Mark your calendars now for the 16th Annual Green Creek School Reunion that will be held on Sunday, June 10 from 2 until 5 p.m.. As usual, this all – inclusive reunion will be held at the former school, now the Green Creek Community Center on Coxe Rd.

Recently, I came across another bit of local history, a page from the minutes of  the history of the Sandy Plains ARP Church. It refers to merging of the two Presbyterian churches here on Nov. 20, 1919.
One of those churches had been started in a brush arbor about 1830 by “Granny Mac” (Margaret McFarland). This church was a Southern (not U.S.) Presbyterian Church.
