With the administrative staff now located in a separate entrance of the new Holl Admissions Center at Pavillon, work is also complete in transforming Pavillon’s main building into a new, comprehensive center dedicated exclusively to treatment, therapy and counseling.
The renovations focused on four key areas: detoxification, nursing care, psychological testing and mental health services and office space for the clinical staff.
The addition of a new nursing station and on-site unit dedicated to medical detoxification was the centerpiece to the renovations. Previously, patients completed detox either in a rehab bed or off-site and then they returned to Pavillon’s campus to begin treatment.
“Being able to provide better on-site coordination of care for our patients was essential for us to address,” said Dr. John Roberts, medical director for Pavillon.
Most patients do require some level of medical attention on admission, Roberts said. For some it’s brief, while others need more extensive medical care. Five single bedrooms are now dedicated to detox and are located directly across from the nursing station.
“The new nursing station is designed to observe patients more fully from a medical standpoint,” Roberts said. “We are always careful in not wanting to move patients out of detoxification too soon or keep them there any longer than necessary, so our ability to now more closely monitor their progress, as well as any escalating psychiatric issues helps us to more effectively transition them into their treatment program.”
Other renovations included:
• Two new group therapy rooms dedicated to programming and therapy services for healthcare and other licensed professionals undergoing treatment. The rapid growth of substance abuse treatment for licensed professionals warranted more space for these particular patients.
• To enhance the privacy for patients requiring more complex treatment, a new area for psychological testing and mental health services for patients with co-occurring disorders has been added.
• New office space for therapists, counselors and physicians in closer proximity to the patients than before.
The total renovation encompassed 5,500 square feet of space dedicated to new and expanded treatment, counseling and therapy areas.
Prior to the construction of the Holl Center and the completion of these latest renovations, the vast majority of all administrative, residential and clinical functions had existed in one building since 1996. An ever-growing patient census, more staff and serious overcrowding necessitated the expansion and renovation, Pavillon officials said.
Pavillon is a not-for-profit residential and outpatient treatment center for substance use and co-occurring disorders with its primary residential treatment center located in Mill Spring in Western North Carolina and a full-service outpatient treatment center located in Greenville, S.C.
