A new Dollar General store will soon be constructed in Green Creek.
A building permit was issued on March 15 for the construction of a Dollar General, which will be located at 6037 Hwy. 9 South between the former Crossroads Restaurant and the Peniel Road intersection.
Polk County employees said they asked Dollar General officials to construct the building with a design similar to that used for the Dollar Generals recently constructed in Saluda and Tryon, but because the Green Creek Dollar General will be located in a multiple use (MU) zoning district, Dollar General was not required to make any changes to its standard building type. Polk County requires only a building permit for construction in the MU zoning district.
The building permit allows for a one-story metal building that will be 9,100 square feet. The building will contain two bathrooms. Setbacks are restricted to 25 feet in the front and rear and 15 feet on the right and left of the building, according to the permit.
The property includes 4.63 acres and has a tax value of $882,336, according to the building permit.
Contractors for the construction include Patton Company LLC, Langford Electric Inc; Carolinas Plumbing; Sill Kirkland Heating and Air Conditioning, with architectural services provided by Narkamore Association Architects Inc. The building permit expires Sept. 11, 2012.
Dollar General currently has locations in Landrum, Campobello, Tryon, Columbus and Saluda.
