Relay for Life of Polk County will be held on Friday, June 1 starting at 6 p.m. and ending at 12:30 a.m. on June 2. Individuals and teams will camp out at the Polk County Middle School athletic track, with the goal of keeping at least one team member on the track at all times throughout the event.
The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life is the world’s largest grassroots fundraising movement, featuring more than 5,100 community and college events nationwide. Relay unites people to celebrate the lives of those who have faced cancer, remember loved ones lost and fight back against this life-threatening disease.
Relay For Life is a team event. Teams do most of their fundraising prior to the event, but some teams also hold creative fundraisers at their camp sites during the event. The American Cancer Society urges companies of all sizes, corporations, schools and organizations to help support the fight against cancer by sponsoring Relay for Life of Polk County.
Many options for sponsorship are available, including forming a team, donating goods, encouraging employees to volunteer at the event and collecting donations for the American Cancer Society at their place of business. Other levels of sponsorship include your company logo or name on the official event shirt for the 2012 Relay for Life of Polk or purchasing event sponsor signs to be displayed on the track for the duration of the event; with these sponsorship levels, your company name will be included in all Relay for Life promotions and media announcements.
Donations collected at Relay For Life support medical researchers in their quest to find better treatments for cancer, and ultimately, a cure for the disease. In addition, Relay events help the American Cancer Society serve more than one million cancer patients annually through patient service programs and awareness efforts.
Anyone wishing to form a team, make a donation or become an event sponsor is urged to visit www.relayforlife.org/polknc for more information or contact American Cancer Society Community Manager Debbie Buchanan at 828-305-3595.
