Thomas Hawkes Nash Jr.

Thomas Hawkes Nash Jr., 89, of Laurel Lake Dr., Tryon Estates, Columbus, died Friday, March 9, 2012 in Tryon Estates Medical Facility, Columbus.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Thomas H. Sr. and Nancy Van Gorder Nash.
He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Nash graduated from Iowa State College and received a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina.  He also did graduate work at Purdue University. He was a professor at Duke University and Spartanburg Technical College and earlier was a researcher at the Naval Ordinance Laboratory in Washington, D.C. and was an engineer with United Shoe Machinery Corp. in Beverly, Mass. Playing his bass fiddle was a major joy.
Surviving are his wife, Muriel G. Nash; a son, Thomas H. Nash III of Madison, Wisc., and a grandchild, Kimberly Nash.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
