Entrants have been busy rehearsing for the Polk’s Got Talent competition. Nearly 30 acts registered to compete in the inaugural event. Preliminaries began Monday, Feb. 20 and continue tonight, Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 6 p.m. at the Tryon Movie Theatre on Trade St. in Tryon.
The final competition will be held Monday, Feb. 27 at the PCHS auditorium beginning at 7 p.m.
Contestants aged 6 – 56 will showcase their varied talents, including singing, dancing and tumbling. There will be Celtic, rock and blues music, performed by individual singers and bands. These and other performances will be judged by local “celebrities” Aaron Greene, Brook Hannon and Susie Kocher.
The event is the flagship fundraiser for the Polk County High School (PCHS) Patrons for Performing Arts. The proceeds from this event will help fund the travel expenses for the school’s competition chorus, Vocal Impressions, to attend Festival Disney, an international competition and choral clinic in April.
The competition is open to the public, and tickets will be available for purchase at the door.

Brook Hannon: Polk’s Got Talent judge

A native of Tryon, Hannon started to explore his love for multimedia entertainment by taking show production courses at Polk County High School. Upon graduating in 2005 he continued his education and received a degree in broadcast communication and has spent several years pursuing his dream within the entertainment industry. Having produced music, videos, and live shows and accompanied national recording artists on tour dates, Hannon now resides in Polk County and is employed by Turner HD Media.
