Two weeks ago, my son asked if I could find a picture of him with his horse, taken sometime during his early teens. Well, I soon found myself on a treasure hunt that hasn’t ended yet! After pulling out books, boxes, and numerous once-important papers, I found lots of forgotten “treasures.”
One special treasure that I found was an old 35mm slide, a picture that I had taken in 1969. The students in this picture were eighth graders who had just graduated from Green Creek School a few minutes before this picture was taken. These students attended Polk Central High School the following year. Many of them had children who later attended Green Creek Elementary (after the middle school students had moved to Polk Central).
For almost half a century before I took this picture, Green Creek students had posed for graduation and class pictures under these windows.
A lot of these photos are on display at the all-inclusive Green Creek School Reunion each year. This reunion is open to anyone with ties to Green Creek, including all former students, teachers, and their families and friends.
This year, the 15th Annual Green Creek School Reunion will be held on Sunday, June 10 from 2 until 5 p.m. Since these reunions are always held on the second Sunday in June each year, we have some out-of-town former students who plan their vacations so that they can attend. Others mark their calendars in January so that they don’t overbook.
