Several weeks ago the House of Flags Museum in Columbus hosted the staff of the state welcome center for a tour of the museum. During the tour, the group discussed the possibility of the welcome center on I-26 helping to guide visitors to the museum.
House of Flags officials announced recently that the museum now has a display in the North Carolina Welcome Center on I-26 at the Columbus-Tryon-Charlotte exit. The full-size “Hornet’s Nest” flag, North Carolina’s first flag, is on display with a placard describing British General Cornwallis’ remarks that led to the design of the flag.
Brochures for the museum are also located on a table.
Museum officials said the next step is securing “cultural attraction” signs from the N.C. Department of Transportation at the east and westbound exits off I-26 and Highway 74.
