Financial speaker Dave Ramsey coming to Landrum

Dave Ramsey, best-selling author, talk show host and speaker, will kick off his well-known Financial Peace University

(FPU) on Sunday, Jan. 15 at 5:30 p.m. at Landrum First Baptist Church.
FPU is a 13-week DVD course in which Ramsey teaches basic financial practices like budgeting, saving for emergencies, becoming debt-free and building wealth. Small group discussions are held after each lesson.
Ramsey makes FPU available to churches, the military, nonprofit organizations and businesses. Ramsey said the program has helped almost 1,500,000 improve their financial situations.
FPU includes the following lessons:
Lesson 1: “Super Saving.” The “seven baby steps” that will guide you throughout FPU and the three key reasons for saving.
Lesson 2: “Relating with Money.” Help for spouses, singles and parents in communicating about money.
Lesson 3: “Cash Flow Planning.” Developing a monthly spending plan.
Lesson 4: “Dumping Debt.” Developing a plan to walk out of debt.
Lesson 5: “Credit Sharks in Suits.” All about credit ratings and how to handle collectors when they call.
Lesson 6: “Buyer Beware.” The effect marketing has on your buying decisions.
Lesson 7: “Clause and Effect.” What insurance you need and what to avoid.
Lesson 8: “That’s Not Good Enough.” Buying only really big bargains.
Lesson 9: “Of Mice and Mutual Funds.” Investment basics.
Lesson 10: “From Fruition to Tuition.” Retirement strategies, and how to pay for your children’s college.
Lesson 11: “Working in Your Strengths.” Strategies for finding a good job.
Lesson 12: “Real Estate and Mortgages.” How to make good decisions when buying or selling real estate.
Lesson 13: “The Great Misunderstanding.” How generous giving can revolutionize your attitude and improve your finances, business and relationships.
