To the Editor:
In response to the article in the Monday, Dec. 12 Bulletin regarding the Nina Simone Project, “Payments incomplete for Simone sculpture,” I would like to clarify that, while this project has been under the “umbrella” of Tryon Downtown Development Association (TDDA) since its inception (to allow tax deductible donations and grant applications), TDDA is in no way a sponsor of the project.
All donations should be specified for the “Nina Simone Project,” as no money from the TDDA general fund will be used to pay this debt.
As mentioned in the article, the project administrators are in the process of applying for 501(c)3 status and the relationship with TDDA will soon be dissolved.
