Crys Armbrust, organ, and Joseph Pullara, trumpet, will perform Wednesday, Dec. 21 at noon at Holy Cross Episcopal Church in the final concert of the church’s Bach’s Lunch Advent Recital series.
The 30-minute program will include Baroque, French Romantic and American contemporary works. Some of the works to be performed are “Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland, BWV 659” by J.S. Bach, “Suite in Six Fitts” by Crys Armbrust and “Concerto in D Major for Trumpet” by Giuseppe Torelli.
Armbrust holds a Ph.D. in Renaissance and 19th century British Literature from the University of South Carolina, where he also taught and served as the founding assistant principal of U.S.C.’s arts- and humanities-based residential program, Preston College.
Armbrust has served as music director for numerous Carolina churches and has directed choral performances at the Washington National Cathedral, St. Albans Cathedral, Canterbury Cathedral and St. George’s Chapel, Windsor.
His male chorus arrangement of Squire Parson’s “Beulahland” received its American premiere in San Francisco in 2006 under the baton of Joseph Jennings, director of “Chanticleer,” who again reprised the work in 2010.
Pullara is a native of Tryon and attended Polk County High School. After graduation in 2007, he enrolled at the University of Arkansas, from which he will graduate in May 2012 with dual degrees in music education and performance.
His future educational plans include pursuing a master’s degree in music performance.
