To the Editor:
The Celebration of Literary and Cultural Awareness event held at the Landrum Library on Nov. 15 was well worth attending. It focused on the diversity of cultures in our own community with a variety of cultural exhibits and demonstrations by artists. These included Native American art (dancing, music, etc.), Indian Bhangra dancing, German/Swiss music (accordion) and song, Appalachian folklore and music and even a Scottish bagpiper. This was interspersed with awards to local students for papers they had written about their cultural experiences.
All of this was pulled together and hosted by Landrum High School student Chelsea Regoni. For her it was a step toward the Girl Scout Gold Award, but for the attendees it was a very entertaining evening of cultural diversity and art. It was a standing room only performance at the Landrum Library.
