Tryon Arts and Crafts School (TACS) will host a blue grass and new grass concert on Friday, Sept. 30 from 8 – 10 p.m. at the outdoor gym at Harmon Field in Tryon.
The Wayne Henderson band, the Anderson/Strickland band and the New 5 Cents band will perform.
Concert admission is by donation. CDs of the groups will be available for sale.
The concert is the high point of a 10-day guitar building workshop taught by Gerald Anderson at the studios of TACS.
Anderson studied guitar building from Wayne Henderson and is passing on his knowledge of traditional instrument construction. The workshop students will be invited on stage to join Gerald and Wayne to play their new guitars.
Prior to the concert, TACS gallery will feature an artists’ reception from 6 to 8 p.m. for both TACS’ 2011 Instructors’ Show and a one-night display of hand-built
instruments made by the performing musicians and guitar workshop students.
The Instructors’ Show, running from Sept. 23 to Oct. 31, will feature current works of pottery, woodworking, metal forging, silver smithing, leather working, lapidary, fused and stained glass and weaving by TACS’ instructors.
Advance registration for all workshops is required. For more information about a particular instructor or workshop, including tuition and supply costs, please contact TACS at 828-859-8323 or by email at tryonartsandcrafts@windstream.net.
More details and examples of projects are available on the Tryon Arts and Crafts School website, www.TryonArtsandCrafts.org. TACS has a limited number of spaces available for classes.
TACS is a non-profit crafts organization located at 373 Harmon Field Rd. in Tryon.
