On Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 2:30 p.m., the Historical Association will present a program on “Making Molasses in Polk County” at the museum in Columbus, 60 Walker Street.
Mabel Searcy Carlyle, Ray Hudson, Bruce Odel and Lewis Williams will be members of a panel discussing how molasses was made in the area. The panel will be moderated by Anna Conner.
Making molasses is a tradition that was passed down through many generations. At molasses-making time the entire family, along with friends and neighbors, would all pitch in to help get the job done.
The panel will discuss the entire procedure from growing the cane to the final finished product. Everyone is welcome.
