The final concert of this year’s “Sunday in the Park” chamber series at Rogers Park will feature Strings of Choice. The concert will be this Sunday, June 12 at 3 p.m. in downtown Tryon’s premiere concert venue, located at 55 W. Howard St.

The intimate sounds of guitar, viola and cello will interweave with those of nature in Roger’s Park. The program will include selections from Celtic tunes to sultry tangos. Special features will include a Haydn trio and Saint-Saëns “The Swan,” one of the most famous cello melodies ever written, arranged here for the performer’s unusual combination of instruments. Musicians include Amy Brucksch on guitar, Jan Daugherty on viola and Kathleen Foster on cello.

Classical guitarist Amy Brucksch’s collaboration with other musicians and artists explores the “points of connection where sounds of the world meet and embrace.” Her recently released CD, “Luminescence,” has been well-received. She tours frequently as part of the NCArts cARTwheels program, sharing her excitement of Latin music with elementary school students. Passionate about community outreach, she develops and teaches residencies and workshops as both education coordinator and guitarist for Pan Harmonia (formerly Keowee Chamber Music).

Brucksch’s most recent project was “GrooveNGuitars,” a year-long program funded by an Outreach for At-Risk Youth grant from the NC Arts Council for children in Rutherford County. She has also been on faculty at the University of Toledo (OH) and an Ohio Arts Council Touring Artist.

Violist Jan Daugherty is currently associate principal violist with the Asheville Symphony and the Charlotte Symphony. Daugherty received her training at the Juilliard School and the Manhattan School of Music. She lives in Saluda, where she is the proprietor of Top Of The Mornin’ Music, which specializes in fine musical instruments, both classical and traditional. The shop features locally crafted instruments and Celtic specialty items and instruction lessons are offered in violin, fiddle, banjo, dulcimer and guitar. Daugherty has recorded and performs regularly with several area Celtic music groups and is a passionate advocate and volunteer for area animal rescue groups.

Cellist Kathleen Foster is a member of the Asheville Symphony and Spartanburg Philharmonic and continues to perform with the Portland Symphony in Maine. She collaterally plays with several upstate chamber groups, including Pan Harmonia and Strings of Choice. Her music degrees are from

Indiana University and Bowling Green State University.

Foster teaches cello for the Lawson Academy of Converse College and is a member of the Lawson Trio, performing regularly on the Converse College chamber music series. Foster moved to Green Creek four years ago from Maine to the horse farm of her dreams, which she shares with two horses, two dogs, five cats, three guineas and 15 chickens.
