A Landrum man was pronounced dead after an early morning accident on Friday, Feb. 4.
Benjamin David Lockhart, 20, of Landrum died in a single-vehicle crash on Spivey Creek Road, according to the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office.
The S.C. Highway patrol said the wreck occurred around 2 a.m. when the car Lockhart was traveling in swerved off the road and struck a tree before skidding down an embankment and into a creek.
Officials said Lockhart was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
According to officials, the accident remains under investigation pending toxicology results from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
Landrum Fire Department and other rescue officials assisted with the accidents.
