Imagine That, Spartanburg’s renowned teen improv group, announces auditions for the 2011-2012 cast. The students are selected through a highly competitive audition process. Applicants must be in the 9th- 12th grade and enrolled in a Spartanburg County high school.

Selected cast members must commit to be alcohol and drug free, be mature enough to deal with serious social issues and will spend the next academic year touring the southeast performing for various youth and adult groups.

“We are looking for young people are really committed to making a difference in their community,” says Sterling Kenny, Imagine That program coordinator. “They should understand the needs in the community and be willing to use their creativity to impact their peers.” Requirements for becoming a member of the troupe are a successful audition and a pledge to stay alcohol, tobacco and other drug free.

Cast members are educated on serious issues impacting youth and adults and trained in improvisation and leadership. The students act out situations and explore possible solutions through the art of theatre and the use of improvisation interactively with an audience.

“Theatre experience is not necessary for acceptance into the troupe, but students should be prepared to share a talent with the judges”, says Kenny. “To reserve an audition time slot, young people should call me at 864-278-9665 to secure their space.”

Imagine That deliberately uses theatre as a vehicle to promote growth and understanding about difficult and serious issues (such as substance abuse, violence, sexuality, and much more). These issues are addressed through a unique form of improvisation, encouraging open conversation in a safe environment.

Imagine That is a program of the Spartanburg Little Theatre. Information can be found on the Imagine That website: www.imaginethatimprov.com.
