Calvin Bradley of Mill Spring will speak about the history of the various electric companies in the area at the next Polk County Historical Association meeting. The meeting will be Tuesday, Feb. 1 at 2:30 p.m. at the museum in Columbus. Bradley, who had a long career with Duke Energy, will talk about the damming of the Green River to form Lake Summit and Lake Adger. These dams were erected to provide power to textile companies in Spartanburg, S.C. Several electric companies provided power before Duke Energy: Manufacturers Power Company, Blue Ridge Power Company and Hendersonville Power and Light Company. The program is free. (photo submitted)
