PCHS Ricky Mozqueda wins Western Highlands Conference

Polk County High Schools cross country teams competed in the Western Highlands Conference Meet at Jackson Park on Wednesday, October 20. Polks Ricky Mozqueda took the lead early on in the 3.1 mile race and was never challenged for the win.&bsp; He cruised to the finish line in 17:39, a new personal record, capturing the 2010 Conference Title.

Andy Conner, a top 10 finisher, ran a personal best 18:28.&bsp; Freshman Jacob Collins (18:50), Bruce Butler (19:04) and Flynn Chapman (19:19) all ran personal records to round out the scoring five runners for Polk.

Also competing for the Wolverines: Dylan Walker 20:36, Kelby Orr 20:54, William Morse 20:55, Nicholas Morse 21:08, Kyle Whitson 21:15, Eric Lauer 21:26, Robbie Franklin 21:28, Sam Vining 21:43, Andre Kohlberg 22:38, Nelson Leonard 23:08, Stephen Staley 23:35, Carlos Chavez 23:42, Conner OHearn 23:51, Dakota Wolfe 25:02, Jackson Price 27:17, Daquan Williams 34:32.

Team standings: Owen 32, Hendersonville 48, Polk 73, Thomas Jefferson 111, Mountain Heritage 131, Mitchell 156, Avery 217.

For the Lady Wolverines, Rebecca Elliott finished 8th overall in 21:06. Also scoring for the Wolverines: Ashley Lynch 22:35, Casey McDowell 22:48, Kari Malkki 23:00, and Cabot Lee Petoia 23:02.

Also running for the Wolverines: Nancy Silva 23:56, Anna Koenig 24:20, Hannah Cantrell 24:56, Leigh Deavor 25:48, Jamie Hrobak 26:49, Kara Garvin 26:59, Allesandra Akers 27:20, Emily Hardin 28:20, Isla Neel 30:34, Bronwyn Pellatt 32:09, Cassie Couch 33:43.

The Wolverines will host and compete in the Regional Championships at Jackson Park on October 30. The top four teams and top five finishers not on a qualifying team at Regionals will compete for the State title on November 6 at Beeson Park.
