Jane Ann Sanz, 90, of White Oak Apartments, Tryon died Friday, October 8, 2010 at her home.

Born in Kansas City, Mo., she was the daughter of the late John Hobson and Martha Ann Collier Shapter. She was the widow of Antonio R. Sanz, who died in l998. Mrs. Sanz moved to Polk County in 1981, coming from New Jersey. She was a founding member of the local AAUW, longtime officer and member of the DAR, Colonial Dames of the XVII Century, volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and was very active in FENCE.

Surviving are: a daughter, Karen Lee Spector (Eric) of McLean, Va.; a daughter-in-law, Terry Karnan, and granddaughter, Lisa Karnan, both of Portsmouth, N.H., and a grandson, David A. Spector (Angela) of Hanford, Calif. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2010 in the dining hall of White Oak Apartments, Tryon, with Rev. Dean Elliott officiating.
