On October 20, in the Community Room of the Polk County Library in Columbus, John Owenby, the owner of Cantrell Gardens, will share his expertise on daylilies. The Tryon Garden Club will meet that day, and Owenbys program begins at 1 p.m.

Owenby has chosen the title, Color June with Daylilies, the Perfect Perennial.&bsp; His program is designed to assist the gardener with planning his spring and summer garden, and it is open to the public.

Owenby, the gardener, and his wife Gloria have lived in Campobello for 33 years. Owenby has been a lifelong gardener, having been mainly a vegetable gardener until he was introduced to daylilies in 1992 at a Park Seed/Greenwood annual garden tour.

Since that time he has collected more than 600 different daylily cultivars which he has offered to visitors and friends of Cantrell Gardens, also located in Campobello.

Most of Johns interests, as a retired environmental engineer, now revolve around gardening activities. Among his favorites are community gardening projects sponsored by two Master Gardeners associations of the area. He also enjoys consulting for contractors who install water gardens for their customers.
