Any concerns about Landrums once-struggling offense have been put to rest in a big way.

The Cardinals eclipsed the 50-point barrier for the second-straight game, rolling to a 56-14 win Friday night at Class 2A Liberty.

LHS (3-2) has scored 110 point in its past two contests, which also included a 54-21 win over Dixie a week earlier.

The game turned into a track meet early on as the two teams combined for 35 first-quarter points, but LHS held on to a 21-14 lead after the opening quarter and was able to sustain that rapid-fire pace throughout the first half. The Cardinals extended that lead to 42-14 by intermission behind the arm and legs of junior quarterback Brandon Cannon.

Cannon threw for three touchdowns and ran for two others all in the first half.

Receiver David Hefner scored on a 50-yard touchdown pass from Cannon and halfback Cole McDowell had a 41-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter.

McDowell, who finished with 135 yards rushing on 13 attempts, added an 11-yard touchdown run to close the first-quarter shootout and put LHS ahead for good.

Cannon added second-quarter touchdown runs of 1 and 13 yards and also connected on a 61-yard touchdown pass to senior wideout Austin Brown as LHS pulled away in the second quarter.

Tyler Logan began the second half with a 76-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and fullback Derek Belue closed the scoring with a 1-yard plunge in the fourth quarter.

Cannon finished with 72 yard rushing on eight attempts and 229 yards on 9 of 11 passing.

The Red Devils (0-5) managed 240 yards rushing, including 100 yards on 12 carries from wing-T quarterback Brandon Alexander, who opened the scoring with a 60-yard touchdown scamper.

The Cardinals were able to take advantage of three LHS turnovers, including a pair of interceptions.

LHS opens its Region II-A schedule this Friday night at Whitmire.
