CCC Pleasure Driving show this weekend

Published 1:24 pm Friday, September 24, 2010

The weather forecast is promising for the Carolina Carriage Clubs 14th Annual Pleasure Driving & Dressage Show at Harmon Field in Tryon this weekend. Remember the deluge that dampened festivities at last year’s show?

Dressage events start Friday, September 24 at 9 a.m., including Training, Preliminary and, for the first time, Intermediate classes.

Saturday action begins at 9 a.m., with the elegant Turnout classes, followed by Working Pleasure classes for ponies, horses, and VSEs (Very Small Equines).

Following the lunch break are Lady to Drive, Gentleman to Drive, Junior to Drive, Jack Benny to Drive, and Carriage Dog classes, a perennial favorite. The final show class for the day will be the new Draft Pleasure Class. &bsp;

Diane Ayers of Rosman, N.C.,&bsp; CCCs usual announcer, has received special permission to leave her microphone to show her newly acquired Belgian mare, Blond Ambition.

Other likely entries include Latina Raville of Laurens, S.C., with her young Percheron Cross, Finnegan; Rena Compton of Greer, S.C., with her American Shire mare, Day Spring Lady Liberty; and Carol Ann Burns of Laurens, S.C., driving her draft cross, Jasper.

Running concurrently in another ring will be the Obstacle Classes (a.k.a. cones) Reverse Psychology followed by Timed Obstacles. VSEs, ponies and horses compete by division. The draft horses, seemingly steady and slow, just may surprise all with their expertise in clearing the cones in short order!

Sundays Obstacle Classes also have intriguing names: Gamblers Choice and Scurry. They start you guessed it at 9 a.m., while Reinsmanship and Reinsmanship Free Style classes are in session in another ring.

Refreshments will be available throughout the weekend.&bsp; For more information, call 828-894-2437.
