Chester Sonny Capps

Chester Sonny Capps, 71, of Moore, S.C., loving husband of Nancy Capps, passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center in Spartanburg, S.C., after a lengthy illness.
Sonny was born June 7, 1939 in Tryon to Pearl Metcalf Capps and Thomas Ruppy Capps. He retired in May 2009 from the transportation industry and served six years in the U.S. Navy. He played all-Navy baseball and was an avid N.Y. Yankees fan throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife Nancy; his sisters, Maxine Thomas (Bill) and Sara Bishop (Bill); 10 children: Joanna, Kim, Teresa (Jeff), Christine (Tim), Thomas, Sandra, Micki, Larry (Nicole), Debra and Barbara (Andrew) as well as many loving grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Julian Capps, and a sister, Jean Capps Jordan.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 11, 2010 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, with the Rev. Fred Siegfried officiating.
Burial will be held following the service in Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 10, 2010 at McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon.
