A Campobello teenager died Monday after suffering a single-gunshot wound to the chest in what authorities are investigating as a possible accidental shooting.

Maxx Aaron Bradberry, 17, of 12700 Highway 9, Campobello, died while being transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for treatment, according to a written statement from the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office.

An autopsy is being performed to learn more about the cause of the shooting. Authorities received information that Bradberry was alone at the time of the shooting, according to the statement. More tests are being performed to determine the cause and manner of the death.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office also is investigating the death.
