Incumbent unaffiliated candidate for Polk County commissioner Warren Watson can seek re-election this year as his petition was certified by the Polk County Board of Elections on Monday. Unaffiliated candidates are required to obtain signatures from five percent of registered voters in order to run for office. Watson obtained 738 signatures, 151 more than the required 587 signatures. Incumbent unaffiliated commissioner Tommy Melton was also recently certified to run for re-election. The deadline for other unaffiliated candidates to turn in petitions is today (Friday, June 25).
