Brandon Jolley left Polk County High School with his name all over the schools baseball record book, something he hopes to see happen all over again as he continues his career at USC Salkehatchie.

Jolley signed a grant-in-aid Monday with the junior college, which is part of the University of South Carolina system.

Indians head coach Bubba Dorman said he was thrilled to get the third-baseman/pitcher for the next two seasons.

I know the coaches here (at PCHS) and so I know Im getting a good player who knows the game and one who plays it the right way, Dorman said.

Jolley said he visited the Allendale, S.C. campus twice before finally deciding to accept the scholarship offer.

At first, I said no, I didnt want to leave home, said Jolley. But after I thought about it, I decided I cant sit here in Polk County all my life. . . . Itd be a waste of talent.

He said he hopes his two years at the junior college level will be a stepping stone toward his dream of playing in the Major Leagues.

I want it to go further than college, Jolley said. Its always been a dream of of mine to play up there in the Majors.

Jolley, a four-time all-conference performer, left PCHS as the all-time school leader in three offensive and two pitching categories. He set school records in hits (101), runs scored (86), mult-hit games (27), pitching wins (27) and pitching strikeouts (198).

As a senior, Jolley batted a team-high .449. On the mound, he was 9-2 with a 2.07 earned run average.

Hes a two-way player, and I like that, said Dorman. Guys who can pitch and hit are tough to find, and he can do both.

The Wolverines also won 69 games during Jolleys career, a school record for victories by a single class.

A winning attitude is also something Dorman is looking to infuse after a 13-41-1 record this past season. He said he believes Jolley will be part of a turnaround for the Indians, who play in NJCAA Region X against schools such as powerhouse Spartanburg Methodist, Louisburg College, Cape Fear Community College and Catawba Valley Community College.

We struggled with pitching, Dorman said. Our best pitcher had one win and a 4.07 ERA. The rest had ERAs over 7, so I think he can help us there and with the bat.
