Graduation- it is finally here. Our hard work and dedication is now officially being recognized and rewarded. The past 13 years of our lives have been spent in school, all for this one evening.

This event is about more than merely receiving a diploma: it is about moving on to the next stage in life. We are leaving behind our parents’ supervision and a small, supportive school and county where we are loved and accepted for who we are. Our paths will now diverge as we embark on a unique pursuit.

Whether you personally are going to college, joining the navy, or taking some other path: you are prepared to excel. Our teachers have labored to instruct us, not only about their set curriculum, but about how to make it far in life. Mrs. Allsbrook, Mr. excuse me, Dr. Campbell Mrs. Weicker, Mrs. White, and so many others have taught us life lessons unrelated to their course material. It is our job to ensure that the time they have sacrificed and knowledge they have given to us bear fruit.

So, as you go out to conquer the world, never forget who you are. Each one of us is special, blessed with different talents and ambitions. We will never be truly happy if we force ourselves to conform to the social norm, or give up our hobbies to work overtime for a job we hate just because it pays well.

Life is short. In order to make your life have worth, or get your name recorded in history books, you must become an expert in whatever field you choose to pursue and make a conscious choice to enjoy each day as it comes. Take pleasure in life’s simple moments and be spontaneous instead of falling into a routine.

As we begin to think about the rest of our lives and realize the significance and symbolism of this moment, remember that your future is truly limitless and bright. Be proud of who you are and what you believe in and never let anyone or any situation persuade you to compromise.

Congratulations on achieving this milestone. Go, Polk County High School Class of 2010!
