Thanks to a contribution from the Polk County Community Foundation, the Polk County Public Library will once again employ a local youth as a Summer Intern for the Columbus and Saluda Libraries.

The Summer Intern Program has been a valuable asset to the librarys dedication to improved patron services. In past summers, the intern has helped the Childrens Services Coordinator expand the Summer Reading Program to include more activities for children.

This year, the programs theme is Make a Splash and will include performances by magicians, musicians, animal programs, theater groups and splashing in local streams and rivers.

In addition, there will be ongoing activities and games offered at both branches of the library.

Kids participating in the program keep a reading log throughout the summer to track the books they read and programs they attend.&bsp; Certificates and prizes are awarded at the end of the summer.

Area students interested in applying for the Summer Intern position at the Polk County Public Library should stop by the main library in Columbus for an application. Qualified candidates should be at least 16 years of age and have a valid Drivers License. Hours will vary but will primarily constitute 30 hours per week at a rate of $8 per hour.
