The Tryon Downtown Development Association (TDDA) will sponsor an auction and sale of area art on Saturday, May 8, at the Tryon Depot. Approximately 70 works on paper and several canvases by former area resident Baron Paul Pourbaix will be auctioned with no reserve.

Pourbaixs contemporary modernist works appear in numerous private and museum collections around the world, most notably in Belgium, France and Italy. Something of an iconic local character, Pourbaix owned Four Columns Farm outside Landrum, and he was heavily involved in the arts in Tryon.

Saturdays auction will additionally include selected canvases, with reserves, by area equestrian painter Teresa Prater.&bsp; Also included in the event will be the outright sale of a private collection of Tryon memorabilia including early Tryon photographs, postcards and paper ephemera.&bsp; Selected note cards with designs by Ronnie Mosseller will be included for sale as well. Proceeds from this event benefit the TDDAs StreetScape.
