Surprise us, Tryon

To the Editor:
In Fridays TDB (page 1), I learned that since forced annexation didnt work, Tryon is now seeking to impose a Township Tax to generate infrastructure revenue.
Is Tryon managing its current resources responsibly? In the same paper I read where Tryon: (page 3), has 40-acres it didnt even know it had.
(page 9), is considering leasing the old depot to a private business for $1 per year for 20 years. Leased property generates no property tax revenue and this is a prime location in the very heart of Tryon. $20 for 20 years&bsp; doesnt sound like good business to me.
(page 14), the sale of the part of the old middle school is canceled because the grant used to purchase it came with strings
(page 16), is asked to waive approximately $11,600 in fees for the BBQ.
This township tax is for business district, events, street, and sidewalk expenses. Because nearby residents benefit from being close to the town they should bear some of this expense.
Using this logic, my closest neighbors should bear some of my expenses if my economic growth slows. They should at least chip in for a landscaping service so my lawn looks nice as they drive by.
Tryon, you may not like the answers, but ask yourself why arent enough people attracted downtown to make the business district viable? Why dont more people desire in-town residence to pay your property taxes? Be a good neighbor and quit looking for others to cover your expenses and largesse. Fix yourself; reinvent yourself. Surprise us.
