The 2010 South Carolina Homeschool Debate Championship Tournament, hosted by the Upstate Area Debate Club, was held at Bob Jones University, Saturday, April 17. Team policy debaters deliberated the 2010 policy resolution: The United States federal government should significantly reform its environmental policy.

Yousuke Zen Matsui placed fourth in the state out of 60 competitors. Matsui is the son of Mark and Drenda-Michell Mathis Brennan and Yoshihito (Zen) Matsui and the grandson of James and Janice Peeler of Campobello. He has competed with the NCFCA Debate League for four years and is a member of S.H.I.N.E. Homeschool Debate Club of Spartanburg where he also serves as a club mentor.

National Christian Forensics and Communications Association (NCFCA) is an organization designed so that formal speech and debate can provide a means for homeschooled students to learn and exercise analytical and oratorical skills, addressing life issues from a Biblical worldview.
