Polk softball team grabs two more wins

The Lady Wolverines continued to roll through their early season schedule, picking up two more wins last week to improve to 5-0.
Polk County routed Thomas Jefferson on Tuesday by a score 16-1. The Lady Wolverines scored at least two runs in each inning and the game was called after five innings on the 10-run mercy rule.
Polk finished with 17 hits, including three each from Haley Champion, Alyssa Montgomery and Jamie Hrobak. Champion and Montgomery also scored four runs, while Hrobak had two runs and two RBIs.
Hrobak also earned the win, striking out seven and allowing no hits in three innings of work.
The Lady Wolverines carried their momentum into their first Western Highlands Conference game of the year the following day against Mountain Heritage, picking up a 6-2 victory.
Hrobak again earned the win, this time striking out 11 while giving up just two hits and one walk in 4.2 innings.
Cassic Couch, Shaylyn Brown and Montgomery each had two hits. Brown, who also had two hits the day before against Thomas Jefferson, scored two of the teams six runs.
Polk took advantage of six errors by Mountain Heritage and collected eight hits to gradually pull away, building a 5-0 lead after four innings.
The Lady Wolverines are scheduled to face Landrum High in non-conference action Thursday at 6 p.m. The JV team plays at 4:30 p..m.
