The annual Coon Dog Day festival this year will include the 5K run once again.

The Saluda Board of Commissioners on Monday approved reinstating the annual run after being asked by Cycle 4 Life, out of Greenville, S.C. to organize the event.
Saluda officials say they began to see issues with parking in the morning hours of the annual festival from the run and asked previous organizers to change the race route away from downtown. The previous organization that ran the event did not want to change routes, so Saluda cancelled the run in 2008.
Nicole Johnson, with Cycle 4 Life said shed work with the city and hold the race wherever is convenient for the festival.
Council agreed to work with Cycle 4 Life on the best route for the race in the coming months. Coon Dog Day is held the Saturday after July 4 every year.
The new route has not been chosen, but in 2008, city council had asked that the race be moved from its city hall start to Thomspon Street and U.S. 176.
The race typically brought 400 to 500 runners in the past. Coon Dog Day is held downtown and normally brings about 10,000 spectators to the small town with a population of just over 600 residents.
