Lady Wolverines 3-0 after big win over East

The Lady Wolverines varsity softball team kept its early season record perfect, picking up wins over East Henderson and Rosman at the end of last week.
Polk, 3-0, put away East Henderson quickly at home on Thursday. The game ended in the fifth on the mercy rule with Polk County up 10-0.
Shalyn Brown, Sammy Mazzilli and Michaelle McKaig each had a hit and scored two runs for the Lady Wolverines.
Jamie Hrobak pitched for Polk County, which held East to just two hits for the game.
The Lady Wolverines faced a tougher challenge in their previous game against Rosman on Wednesday.
Polk needed three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to come from behind for a 7-6 win. Polk pitcher Yancy Pace got the win.
The Lady Wolverines were led offensively by Cassie Couch, Nikki Williams, Brown and Pace, who each had a hit and a run.
This years Polk County squad includes three seniors, Mazzilli, McKaig and Williams. Williams had 17 stolen bases and scored 25 runs for Polk last year with a .345 batting average.
The juniors on the team include Kara Garvin, Erica Painter, Haley Champion, Cavin Richards, and Alicia Lockhart. Last season, Champion and Garvin contributed 15 and 21 runs, respectively. Garvin also had 20 RBIs.
Polks sophomores this year are Alyssa Montgomery and Hrobak. As a fresman, Hrobak pitched 127.3 innings and went 13-6 with 148 strikeouts and just 21 walks. She had an ERA of 1.3.
She is joined on the mound his year by Pace, a freshman. The varsity squad has&bsp;four other freshmen this year: Samantha Walker, Chelsea Kelly, Couch and Brown.
Polk County are scheduled to host Mountain Heritage at 4 p.m. on Wednesday for their first Western Highlands Conference game of the 2010 season. They face North Henderson at home at Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
