Though they may be competitors on the athletic field, Landrum and Polk County high schools have found a common ground in the performing arts. Landrum sophomore, Jerreth Emory, will be conducting the Polk County High Schools spring musical, Disneys Alice in Wonderland, Jr.

As a two year old, Emory could often be found conducting Landrum High Schools marching band. Of course, he was standing directly behind the bands drum major.

Emory became enthralled with conducting at a tender age, but admits he was a fifth grader before he truly realized what all those arm swings actually conveyed. He studied on his own for a several years, watching famous conductors on video focusing on their expertise and style.

It was at a production of Wicked that Emory realized he could marry his love for acting and theater with his love of conducting. With that, he set out to gain as much conducting experience as possible. His drive to acquire conducting experience led him to PCHS.

Jerreth was working tech for the Sound of Music and approached me about the possibility of working with me on the musical. He started working with the cast the following Monday and has been such a wonderful addition to our production, states director Donna Everett, PCHS theater arts teacher. He is very precise and has such high standards. Its been a joy to work with him.

Its an excellent cast, said Emory who says he is enjoying his time working with the PC Players.

The PC Players and one Cardinal present Disneys Alice in Wonderland this Friday and Saturday, March 12 and 13 at 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday, March 13 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available by calling 828-894-2525, ext. 261.
