The season of shenanigans

To the Editor:

After reading Warren Watsons statements in Mondays preview of Nonsense Yet to Come, I made a few heated phone calls, quickly penciled in an anger management session on my To Do list and went out to bury a dead chicken in the yard. The Season of Shenanigans is upon us.

On behalf of Ray Gasperson, Renee McDermott and myself, (I cannot speak for the men that sit to my right and gesture wildly in their inability to utter Madame Chair) we ask that you recognize the unfounded allegations of party corruption and ineffective leadership as the first of many political ploys that will likely pass through these pages.

We are neither defined nor directed by the Democratic Party. We were elected to represent you and that is precisely what we strive to do in all our affairs.

After a mere 14 months in office, as members of the current board of commissioners, we have: installed fiber optic conduit along highway 9 to the Green Creek Fire Dept., contributed to the repair of the open-air gym at Harmon Field, financed the Polk County Senior Recreation Center, financially assisted St. Lukes first phase improvements, passed a Sedimentation and Erosion Control Ordinance, passed a Mountainside and Ridgeline Protection Ordinance, reduced the Polk County tax rate, reduced debt, installed water line extensions, purchased Lake Adger, revised a Water-Line Extension Policy, revised and improved the Zoning and Subdivision Ordinance, established an After School Program, received $25,000 in grants to establish a Mobile Recycling Service, completed the site selection and timeline for the future construction of the Polk County Human Services Facility, funded renovations for an Adult Day Care Center, in addition to many other duties of the office.&bsp; &bsp;

Let us be cognizant of the absurdities of political posturing and move on. There is much more good work to be accomplished. &bsp;
