Kudos to Foothills Music Club

To the Editor:

In addition to living in one of the most beautiful parts of our country, we are privileged to live in an unusual community with its cultural advantages and remarkable people, many of whom are gifted performers who generously share their talents with us.

I attended a wonderful concert given by The Foothills Music Club at Isothermal Community College last week. This club was founded and organized 20 years ago by Lesley Oakes. Its purpose was to encourage people to continue to be active in the music world even into old age. The membership is comprised of musicians who still perform, some of whom had performing and academic careers and some who are exceptional amateurs. The club has contributed over $30,000 in scholarships since its inception.

Kudos to this wonderful group. What an asset to the community they are.&bsp; And yes, Lesley Oakes is still active. In addition to planning and organizing this concert, she performed beautifully on her flute.
