Auditions for the Tryon Little Theaters final production of the season, the healing comedy Grace & Glorie, will be held at the TLT Workshop, 516 S. Trade Street, Tryon on Friday, February 26 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday the 27 from 10 a.m. to noon.

There are roles for two women: Grace a 90 year old country woman (make-up is a wonderful thing), and Glorie a professional woman in her 30s or 40s.

Grace Stiles is a 90 year old country widow woman who lives in a cottage in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Shes worked hard all her life, has no regrets, and oh, by the way, shes dying. But shes okay with that. Honey, I grew up the youngest of thirteen kids. And we had only one outhouse. One. Why I got so I could hold my water for a week standin in front of Ruby Falls.

Gloria Whitmore is a Harvard MBA who recently and reluctantly moved to rural Virginia from New York as she and her husband try to build a new life. She has lots of regrets. Now shes trying to find herself as a Hospice worker and do-gooder. Shes not so okay with that. Apparently, its what all the well-off, married women do here with their spare time. Its more or less expected.

What do these women have in common? Not a thing. But through their differences and with a lot of humor, they help each other and find their own bond. But dont forget, Glorie, as Grace calls her, is there essentially to help Grace die.

Grace: You say youve done this before?

Gloria: Ive assisted on two other cases, yes.

Grace: You helped two other perfect strangers die?

Gloria: Yes.

Grace: You do this for a living, help people die?

Gloria: I told you, Im a volunteer.

Grace: You volunteer to help people die. Is this some sort o Yankee custom I never heard about?

There is much laughter in this play, and also much simple wisdom. Auditions will consist of readings from the script. Scripts are available for two day checkout at The Book Shelf, 90 Pacolet St., in Tryon. The production will run at the Workshop April 29 and 30 and May 1 and 2, 6 and 9.
